“I want to work doing something I can push myself at and realize I can do more and hit my goals and be able to say, I BUILT THAT.” ~ Kimber Allred
Women In the Trades (WIT): Ironwork & Welding
Imported from Hailey, Idaho as a one-year old, Kimber grew up in Juneau. As an adult, she moved to Wasilla, and became familiar with office work. Not rewarding enough, Kimber was searching for something more fulfilling. She found a training opportunity in Ironwork with the Women In the Trades program at Alaska Works Partnership. She was hooked. Defeating the “man’s work” stereotype, Kimber excelled through the training and exceeded even her own expectations. The Ironworkers Local 751 was happy to accept her, and she was put to work almost immediately. Kimber now enjoys the hard work, great pay and career longevity! She has most currently been doing slab and rebar work for Iron, Inc. from Anchorage to Delta Junction. Kimber says she looks forward to going to work each and every day!
