Alaska Works Apprenticeship Expos

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in and supported the 2024 Alaska Works Apprenticeship Expo events in Anchorage and Fairbanks. These events were a tremendous success, thanks to our partners, local schools, teachers, students, and the community.

In Anchorage, approximately 450 attendees gathered at the event, including 280 high school students. We were pleased to have students from Kusilvak Career Academy, Bartlett High School, Dimond High School, S.A.V.E. High School, Benny Benson High School, West High School, South High School, Service High School, Eagle River High School, Chugiak High School, East High School, Mountain City Academy, Whittier High School, Mat-Su School District, and Mat-Su Colony High School. In Fairbanks, over 350 total attendees participated, including 240 students from North Pole High, Lathrop High, West Valley High, Star of the North Charter School, and Hutchinson High, along with homeschool students and attendees from Tok.

Both events featured a variety of hands-on activities to help students explore career opportunities in the skilled trades, such as building mini sawhorses, constructing toolboxes, welding and soldering exercises, and engaging with refrigeration and furnace displays in Anchorage. In Fairbanks, students enjoyed electrical displays, scaffolding demonstrations, welding simulations, and birdhouse construction.

We would also like to thank our incredible partners for their involvement in both events: Alaska Primary Care Associates, Boilermakers, Carpenters, Electricians, Operating Engineers, Ironworkers, Laborers, Painters, Plumbers and Pipefitters, Piledrivers and Divers, Sheetmetal Workers, Teamsters, the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (DOLWD) Job Center, and the DOT&PF Civil Rights Office. Your commitment to helping students connect with apprenticeship opportunities and explore the exciting world of the construction trades is invaluable.

Thank you again to all who attended and supported these events. Together, we are inspiring and training the next generation of tradespeople in Alaska.
