John’s passion for the electrical trade began in high school, where he set his sights on a career in the industry. Eager to get a head start, he signed up for courses with Alaska Works Partnership to gain hands-on skills and technical knowledge. He completed classes in Telecommunications, Electrical Wiring, First Aid, and OSHA 10 standards, determined to prepare himself for the challenges ahead.
After high school, John initially worked as a trailer mechanic, putting his mechanical skills to use. However, his experience with AWP kept the spark alive, reminding him of his goal to pursue the electrical trade. In March 2024, he made the leap and applied for the IBEW Inside Wireman apprenticeship—and was thrilled to be selected. Now, as a first-year apprentice, John is embarking on his career path with confidence.
Reflecting on his journey, John credits AWP for opening the door to his apprenticeship. "The training made me realize that this is the career I want to pursue," he shared. His story is a testament to how determination, preparation, and the right training opportunities can set the stage for success in the trades.
