Austin a nine-year army veteran, transitioned into civilian life with a clear goal: to pursue a career in the trades.
In June, 2023, Austin took a significant step towards his goal by applying to the IBEW apprenticeship program. Recognizing the importance of building a strong foundation for his future, he didn’t stop there. In July, he seized the opportunity to enhance his skill set by enrolling in Alaska Works Partnership’s telecommunications training.
Throughout the training, Austin’s dedication and aptitude shone brightly. His commitment to learning was evident as he ranked as one of the top performers in the class. His instructor praised his engagement, proactive approach to learning and his willingness to ask questions.
With his newfound knowledge and passion, Austin faced the IBEW apprenticeship interview in late July. His confident display of skills and determination impressed, making him stand out among peers. In October, he received the news of his selection as a wireman apprentice.
Now, as a first-year wireman apprentice, he’s poised to make a career in the electrical industry, showcasing his resilience and commitment to success.
